Ok, so… The Tech created fascinating opportunity of prototyping exhibits in sl that can be realized in rl museum (link 1, link 2).
My exhibit idea:
There would be multitouch screen irl (size of full length mirror) displaying avatar and “mirror” in sl displaying webcam stream of person that is standing in front of screen irl. That would create illusion of looking into mirror - both in sl and rl ;). Multitouch screen would let you control your avatar (your “reflection”). Later, Avi Marquez/Nina Simon suggested that avatar’s appearance could be determined by personality test.
Project was registered on site some time ago, but i’ve placed decorative sl mirror in Parkside Hall Exhibit Workshop (in Tech’s sim) today, so i’ve thought that it’s good moment to write post about it ;).

…well, i’m not into 3D ;) but i’m using my 2D and tech skills instead. Here’s personality test menu design:

I’ll inform you about progress here xP. Ah, and here’s project page. It’s wiki, so it’s always under edition, sentences are deleted, rewritten, etc ;).
UPDATE 28.01.08
I’m resigning from Tech’s competition. Many of Mirror’s contents are already done, though. I’m eager to continue project if any company/museum/institution will be interested. It can be not only good exhibit but also commercial product available for purchase (I’ve got private messages and comment from people asking if they can buy Mirror). I’m not interested in unreliable web competitions and transactions. I’m interested in work protected by documents and law. I can work remotely and contact with you by Internet, but I require documents to be sure that my work is safe. If you’re interested feel free to contact me via qui.dolorem.ipsum@gmail.com.
Here’s what happened. I went to Friday exhibit design meetup - regular Second Life event organized by The Tech for people that are taking part in their competition. After discussing other projects and competition issues Avi started to talk about my project. Basic problem was that I DIDN’T RECOGNIZED MY OWN PROJECT. She presented her own, _completely different_ idea as mine. I wasn’t shocked because of changes - it was collaborative project, it was changed all the time. I was shocked because she used MY NAME without my approval. Funny thing was that she presented that _different mirror_ as my idea, while I was least informed about it! I didn’t knew what she was talking about. World isn’t nice and cute, various things happen… but someone using MY NAME without my approval? I can’t work like this.
I _think_ that I still have right to use MY OWN IDENTITY, don’t I? After that Friday event - I’m not so sure…
Here are some of changes that were made - I hope that this will help you understand that WEIRD situation:
- Avi’s project (which was presented as mine… I’m loosing my sense of identity! :/) won’t use multi-touch screen (what’s the reason of Mirror without touch/multi-touch screen?)
- you won’t be able to explore your identity in private atmosphere by interacting with avatar because…
- it won’t generate avatars AT ALL. it will use sl volunteers instead
- it will be on Second Life main grid so it will be closed during planned and unplanned grid outages
- …definitely isn’t kind of project I would sign with my name!
I’m still interested in realizing my original multi-touch idea. But not that half-baked idea that Avi presented as mine without my approval.
To clarify that situation more I will also post e-mail I’ve sent to Avi:
I see that you want to realize completely different idea than my
original “Mirror” multi-touch project. Due to that fact I just deleted
“Mirror” from thetechvirtual.org and from sl. Idea you presented on
latest friday event is completely different project and has nothing to
do with my idea. I understand that it’s collaborative project, but i’m
using my rl name… I’m applying to college and I’m trying to do some
interesting projects to impress potential schools. Idea you presented
isn’t kind of project I would like to sign with my name, though.
As you know, I’m author of idea, photography and graphical elements
I’ve used. I’m resigning from working with you and I’m not approving
any usage of my own, copyrighted graphical and technical material. I’m
author of ideas, graphics, photography and technical assumptions and
my works can’t be used without my approval.
I also would like to note that your blog post is wrong - idea from
last friday event is yours, not mine. I’m creator of multi-touch
exhibit idea which was presented on previous meetings and is described
on my blog. It’s easy to notice that ideas are completely different.
If there will be interest - I will realize MY project with different
museum/institution/company.
